Is it necassary to have a heater?

Unless you live in Australia. but keeping tropical fish in cooler climates, it is neccesary to have a heater, IMO

i say yes as a safety precaution, no matter where you live. Australia can get pretty cold (although not below freezing, i used to live in Perth) it doesnt have to be on, just have one on hand.

What happens when it gets really cold and you have no heater and your home heater is broken? And its late at night so fish stores are closed. Now what?
