Hi

I have a 200w heater on my cycling 4ft tank (approx 30 US Gallons). i have a digital thermometer and the heater keeps on coming on every now and then and going upto 27/28 C and i have it set to 24C !

I think the thermostat maybe broken :(

If I was to get a new heater what is the ideal wattage size for my tank? I cant see a guide anywhere

well i have a fifty five gallon tank and it has a 200 wat heater so for you tank i would say like 100~130 wat

Regardless of wqhat the temperature gauge on the heater says, go off your thermometer, not the heater. Just turn it down till you consistently get the temperature you want.

When I've moved everything across from old tank I will have a free 150w visitherm heater that I know works well.

If 150w is ok i will stick with that one.

I haven't got the heater plugged in at the moment and it's sticking at around 26C

That maybe staying like that because of the lighting though.

I have an alarm on the thermometer that will hopefully wake me up if it goes too low.
