OK, so today we had a random power outage that lasted about 2 hours.
I was concerd that my tanks would get cold, but the temp only fluctuated a few degrees.

I was woundering what you all have done, when power outages have lasted 4+ hours...
(I remember a couple years back, we had a power outage that lasted 3 days. Us and 2 of our neighbors shared a generator for 6 hours each in rotation to keep our fridges cold)

Most tropical fish can handle temps of 65, sometimes lower, for limited periods of time, so power-outages in this respect are nothing to fear. It's the filtration stoppage that's the bigger concern for me.

The concern is that all the bio-filtration in the tank is slowed since the water is no longer being run through the filter - this can lead to spikes in the water and the killing off of bacteria in the filter. Current can pose a problem for oxygen levels. Still, any reasonably stocked tank should be able to go a couple of days without any issues.
