I've just got home and realised my heater has died! tank was at about 25 degrees last night, now at 20.

Do you think my fish will be okay? I have 6 green neon tetras in tank. I have put in a spare heater i had so hopefully that will bring the temperature gradually up overnight, am i right in thinking you can't just add warmer water as this temp change would shock them?

Thanks

It will depend on how big your tank is and how much warmer water you add. If you have a large tank then the temperature would have dropped slowly anyway so you should be ok. If it were me I'd just leave the replacement heater to do it's job and you should be fine.

I forgot plugging in the heater several times letting the temperature drop to about 20s too and the fish weren't bothered one bit. It took about 24 hrs for me to notice so not sure how fast it went down.

thanks for the replies guys, yea the temperature was back up to 24 this morning and the fish are all fine! panic over :)

Remember to get a 2nd spare heater as backup for when the 1st spare heater stops working
