Erm perhaps you should buy a new heater?

However in the mean time add warm dechlorinated water and leave the lights on a few extra hours.

ditto. keep an eye on temp, if it drops a degree or so remove some water and add warm (not hot or boiling) water. try not to allow the temp to fluctuate (?) too much. and i advise investing in a new heater as soon as possible.

Buy a backup heater.

May cost extra, but itl come in handy.
Id love to but we have an emergency here! All the fish shops are shut and me heater is not working, the water is now freezing!!!! Ta for the tip though, ill get a backup one asap.

Probably a silly question, but have you tried turning the thermostat up AND down?. Long shot. If you do need a new one, go for a Visitherm; five year guarantee.

Mine messed up the other day. What brand is yours? Mine was hagens Elite for 10 gallon aquariums.

I was messing on inside the tank and it went off, temp started droppin after a while and i was like wtf. Unplugged it, messed on with the switch (turned both up and down) and then it eventually came back on
