hi guys just in the process of setting up my new vision 180 and ive decided to go for a fluval 205 filter and a new heater.

i no they tell you where to put the filter inlet and out let but ive also seen online that people reccomend the filter inlet being near the top of the tank

what do you guys / girls think

also been told to place the heater on an angle rather than straight up is this also correct

thanks in advance

I have my inlet about half way down the tank, (I use a HOB Filter) But on my other tanks its all internal filters. If your using an external, Just put the inlet on one side of the tank and the outlet on the other. This way you get a good circulation.

With regards too the heater. Its best too place it on a 45degree angle simply becuase this way the heat is spread & if you stand it upright there is a "Chance" that it could heat the element and give false readings too the thermostat.

Hope this helps.

Have you bought the filter yet? If not I'd recommend going for a different brand, the Fluval 05 range isn't fantastic from experience, they normally fail just outside the warranty.

My inlet is near the bottom, but so that it doesn't suck up substrate, and your heater should be fine vertical as long as there is adequate flow around the tank.

ive already baught the filter and have it all set up in my tank already its got a 3 yr warranty anyway and i doudt ill have it in 3 years should have a much bigger tank by then i hope.

ive got the heater upright next to the inlet for the pump so that it will dispiurse the heated water out of the outlet.

1 last question whats the best place to place the thermometer (oppersite end of the tank or closer to the heater thanks again
