Me again :* Has anyone heard of Prime by Seachem. It removes cholorine, chloramine, ammonia and detoxifies nitrite and nitrate and provides slime coat. It says to use 5mls to 50 gallons of water. Im at a loss as to how to use it for small 5 gallon tanks. Does anyone have the maths on how many drops to a ml without physically working it out?

20 drops per ml. It's one of the best dechlorinators on the market.

I use it and have done for years. 20 drops per ml?!?! That's an insane dose...

Get yourself a 1ml or 2ml syringe or 2 off ebay and it will be a lot easier to dose properly. The bottle dose is 5ml for every 200l of new water. So 1ml treats 40l, 0.5ml 20 litres, 0.25ml 10 litres which is easily measured in a small syringe. Therefore 5 gallons (I'm not sure if you mean UK or US) being around 20 litres you would need about 0.5ml. I double dose just to be on the safe side so I'd say 1ml. The bottle states you can dose up to 5x normal dose in emergencies so this is not a problem.

I'm guessing you got the smallest bottle with the dropper, again ebay a 100ml bottle and it will last you a long time or 250ml if you have larger tanks.

It's great stuff with multiple uses and very concentrated compared to other products so well worth the investment I think!

Now that is very helpful information :good: I bought a 100ml bottle as I have a lot of tanks but started scratching my head when it came to working out the dosage. I can pick up a syringe at the chemist tomorrow. You said you double dose just to be safe? Is that to treat the problem of ammonia or just to treat the tap water for chlorine?

No that's just to treat tapwater prior to water changes. It's so little otherwise I can't help thinking it's not enough!

Yes I quite agree just adding a couple of drops makes me think have I got this right, should I drop some more in or not? :/

Yes, there are 20 drops per ml of Prime. This ends up being a dosage of 2 drops per gallon at the suggested dosing rate.
