Hi I just wanted to know does the colour of the green spotted puffer change when its in tropical compared to brackish? because I saw 2" gsp's in a shop kept in fresh water and they weren't colourful and they were more dull in green. Does this mean they lighten up to show they are happy when they are in brackish?

GSP's show colour through emotion - if they are stressed they will darken in colour and get a grey belly.

One of my puffers can lighten the colour of it's spots (they turn almost white) they can also lose colour when resting - when I turn the lights on in the morning the puffer who can change it's spots is almost always colourless and within 10 seconds it's bright with spots again.

Both my puffers have lovely white belly's. I would suggest the ones you have seen in the store are probably unhappy (possibly from the stress of moving as they are wild caught) or a change in their diet.
