Hi all:

I have a head and tail light tetra that every once in a while seems to develop a little white tuft of something on his lip. Then, it seems to go away by itself. His partner in the tank for some reason has lost a bunch of scales and parts of his fins appear rotted away. Both of them have some degree of white cloud over their eyes.

My lfs has recommended PimaFix but I would rather not treat the whole tank unless it is absolutely necessary since I am fearful of killing my beneficial bacteria colony and harming my live plants. Is it possible to place the fish in some sort of plastic container suction cupped to the inside of the tank and treat the fish there? I'm thinking something like the containers they use in the lfs to bag the fishies. I know I would have to probably change the water daily and re-medicate but I don't mind doing that. FYI the tank is meticulously maintained with weekly 20% water changes and all other fish are in perfect health.

It seems like your little neons have a bacteria infection, Melafix is a great antibiotic for this that is safe to use in ur aqaurium with your healthy fish and plants. It also helps with fin rot. It also will not hurt ur beneficial bacteria :) Good luck.

But if your still leary of treating the whole tank, do a hospital tank and do it there.
