I recently added HC Cuba to my tank, problem was after splitting it in to three bunches my apple snails decided to eat half of it hence that bunch died.
It was potted when I got it but I had so much trouble getting that felt rubbish off the roots and that's why I split it in to three rather than planting in very small bunches a few cm's apart to get a carpet.
I now have 3 pots coming from ebay which was a bargain as the 3 pots cost the same as 1 from the Green Machine and I'd really like some tips on planting it, getting the best out of it and hopefully getting that s**t off the roots successfully lol?????

You actually leave just under a cm of the wool with the roots, the wool acts as a weight and they plant will still be able to grow properly. Also, try to cut some of the roots, it stimulates growth.
Carl :good:

Actually the felt stuff filled the entire pot so was about 6cm deep.

There is two ways.

1) Do as Carl says and cut the HC into 1cm cubes (just cut the wool off and leave 1cm behind, it doesnt hurt anything),

2) Seperate into individual stems & plant. You do want to try and remove the wool if you are doing it this way, the best way is to do it in a bucket of water, and it should come off much easier.

Either way plant the cube/ stems a few cm apart like you did the first time.

I have tried both ways and I planting in single stems produces a much better carpet, obviously this just depends if you have the time & patience - and a good back lol

Thanks, Aaron

I'll just add onto aarons second method, if you don't have the patients or want the carpet effect; try supergluing the roots to a pebble and hide the pebble under the substrate, it will root using this method.

Patience...............lol couldn't resist correcting a mod :)
