Hi guys,

Just a quick question about HC - I got some today however I'm not quite ready to plant it. This is due to only having one plant in my tank at the moment because of digging fish that destroyed anything else. I have now taken the culprit fish out and it is now housing about 85 fry. I am aiming to make it quite "jungley" with dense planting when finished but I probably won't be able to get plants before I go on holiday in 2 weeks because of being very busy  I am going on holiday for 3 weeks so it will be at least 5 weeks before the HC gets planted  Will it be ok? It is floating in a breeding trap in my tank at the moment. I just don't want to leave it thinking it will be ok and then coming home and it be dead :/

Lol - just realised that wasn't as quick a question as I thought it was going to be

Thanks,

Claire

floating is about th best place for it to be, lots of light & unlimited CO2 :D just as long as you provide nutrients it should be good to go :)

Good luck with the HC.
I know you have been after some for a while.
Glad to see you got hold of some.

I tried HC Cuba recently. The clumps I planted have not done very well, dwindling away in some cases and just doing nothing in others. However an astonishing amount got free and is now thriving as a floating plant, so I left it there!

Does mean I'm on the look out for another carpeting plant though...

Why is hc so difficult? Was thinking of a nano with rocks, hc, and downoi....

HC just likes lots of CO2 & NO3.
^^^^^^^^^^^^

Yeah, I guess, as I have had it in my tank a couple years ago, attached to a rock. Have not tried it as a foreground cover. The 'plant expert' at my former LFS told me that he gave up on it because he had so many problems with it. I think it would look great in a nano, with all glass equipment in the tank, centered rocks with downoi in bewteen and around them, with 360 degrees around the rocks/downoi...open top tank. There is a very similar look/pattern to HC and downoi, so I'd like to try it one day, with cherry shrimp and a small school of tetras that matches the shrimp.

I have read it is pretty demanding.
I've been dosing easycarbo nearly every day (nearly because I forget sometimes ) so it should be ok :)
Hopefully my tank will look pretty good when it's done :D
