What is this HC and HG which people have been talking about?, and is it suitable for a no c02 54 litre tank with rainbows and platies(and yes i know 54 litre is too small for rainbows!I have heard it all before)

thanks for your help

HC is one of the carpeting species, it requires VERY high lighting conditions, i presum you have a rekord 60? it will not grow in there, i presume if you do have the rekord, HG requires about 2WPG. so is not suitable for a rekord, your better off looking at mosses.

get those rainbows homed!

thanks, mosses like java moss?, and wat about riccia?, the rainbows are home and here to stay

A fish isnt just for christmas its for life

yes java moss, but it wont carpet and riccia is good too. but it wont carpet, it will only grow upwards but needs tying down to some rocks or a peice of wood.

a rainbow in a 54 litre  they can grow to around 5 inches and thats just under a quarter of your tank

you could find a home for them...

i was thinking of having c02 aaron, which one do you reccomend for cheapness and quality, i have only a few plants so its only minor but i dont want to bodge my own, ive been looking at the tetra one, can you advise?

Hemianthus callitrichoides.

not sure about HG scientific name i just read it needs about 2 WPG

I meant the rainbow (should of been clearer) but I dont know HG either, there is UG (uriticularia Graminifolia)

For cheapness use a DIY kit

The tetra kit isnt very good, it needs filling up a few times a day and isnt very efficient, the only other i would reccomend is a nutafin kit, which is the same principle as the DIY kit but it costs 10x dearer!!
