Well.. I'm now 16 and have to face facts that I'm leaving school in 2 months. Over the last year I have made to establish myself in the web development business, but as of now I am earning a few hundred pounds short of what I need monthly to live on. Therefor, for the first year or two I'm going to need a job. After thinking of how to do this without ending my hobby, I finally accepted it wasn't possible. sad.gif

So, over the last week I have found new homes for all my fish. I am keeping just 4, being the Moscow Blue guppies which are beautiful fish. I'm hoping that in a year or two's time when I earn enough online to be able to quit my (whats going to be) boring job. If that happens, I will be able to get back into the hobby.

No real reason for this thread, just wanted to tell you all that I'm going to be out of the practical side of the hobby for a while, but I'll still try to post here.

(I posted this in the Corydoras section too, as that was the species I most kept.)

well, good luck with everything, hopefully you can find time to enjoy the hobby again soon.

In the US kids don't graduate from public school until 18, sometimes 17. I guess it must be different in the UK if you are 16 and done with school. (I assume you are not planning to be a "drop out")

Why not combine the hobby and a need for a job and apply for a job at LFS?

I do understand at 16 other interest like going out and having girlfriends take over.

 Timmy.
I was never in at that age.

Was never the case for me... maybe that's why i'm still single?! LOL! Anyone interested!? I don't like to blow my own horn but I have a nice body! Have piccys and everything!!

If you could blow your own horn, you'd make a bloody fortune!.

Holy crap! You graduate school at at 16? Here is the US we graduate around the age of 18 and then university/college after that. Im not leaving that house till im 22/24 depending on if I would get a bachelors/masters. 16 seems so young to be all on your own...... :(

Same here in australia. We finish school when we are 17/18. I have 4 tanks and i'm away sometimes for months on end and i still have them. We all have our reasons. Good luck with everything

By the tone in your post, you sound quite sad and dissapointed.
Hopefully you will see that you can do both, keep fish and work after a while of working, it will all fall into place.
Goodluck job hunting.

Thanks for all your posts, and yeah, at 16 in the UK you can legally leave school. I am getting decent enough grades to stay on at school or go to college but it doesn't appeal to me. I'm confident I can earn enough online by the time I'm 18 or 19; 20 at the very latest. That will be the time I get serious in the hobby, as I will have more funds to fund it. :)

As for the job at the LFS, I have thought about it. But then I think maybe I would get bored being around fish if I'm out at work with them on a 9-5 job.. might not happen but it seems like a possibility. Heh, I haven't decided on a job yet. I guess while I stay at home I don't really need one and could live off what I earn online, but I really want my own place so I'm looking at a basic wage 9 to 5 for a year or two.

Yah its the same here in Oz, we can legally live at 16 or the end of year ten whichever comes first. I'm going onto year twelve, thats two years away, I have no idea what on earth I'm gonna do with all my tanks, cant see my Mum feeding the eels live food.

Why cant you keep fish? I wouldn't have thought they cost that much, ah well to each his own.
