Guys I haven't come on here in months, I finally got a tank and stocking I adore, then I fell pregnant (20 weeks now) and everything's gone to pot. Whilst the fish are happy and doing great, I don't spend any time nurturing the tank, it's just doing it's own thing and I feel incredibly guilty. My tank cabinet has glass doors with corners that fill me dread when I consider a wandering toddler and I can't keep that cabinet even if I keep the tank. The other thing is I want to have a floor put down and the thought of emptying the tank, keep the fish somewhere else, refilling it and reheating a 270 litre tank whilst pregnant and with other children in the house is just scaring the life out of me. I am even considering selling the lot but I am left wondering how empty I would feel without my tank. Do you have any advice? I have great stocking and I could make £350 from the set up and it would pay for the floor, but I would miss it, but it's not really fair that I don't have the time or energy to spend on them any more. What do you think? Hope everyone's well. Mel. Xx

Sell it, get your floor and a nice little table top set up in the 10-20 gallon that takes little time, doesn't require bending over and can be kept out of reach of little hands for a couple of years.

We had the same problem a few years ago, 3 kids and another on the way and I was working very long hours. I did say to my girlfriend we could just give the kids away but they're still here. We got rid of the tank, and a cat too. Few years later we got a new tank, and another and another. You can always go back to it again later at some point (at least that's what I told myself)

I'm thinking now to keep my L numbers, as they are my pride and joy, my keyholes too and anything else can be replaced. I'm thinking to get a smaller tank and have my special favourites in there, that way I can have it all. Thanks for your replies.

I agree - do whatever you need to to make pregnancy easier. I found myself in a mini cycle and doing daily water changes for 3 weeks while about 6 months pregnant (that was so much fun!) and I wouldn't do it again. At least you are being honest enough to admit you can't give it the attention it needs, and a smaller tank would be less demanding while you need the time to devote to a newborn. You've plenty of time left to go to get a smaller tank and a better suited stand (or devise a suitable place for it to go without a stand), so don't sweat it too much! :) being pregnant and a mum is stressful enough without having extra stress on your plate! Do what you need to, and come back to it full throttle later when your LO is older.
