ok thanks for that.sand in 55 g is beach sand.
i tried a bunch of sands from the local river and a few from different spots at the beach.
i chose that stuff because it settled the fastest, thinking it would give me less trouble with the filter.
i guess that also means it is a relativley large grain size.
the little dude is eating frozen blood worms, and he is pretty hopeless at catching fry ( at the moment)
in terms of disadvantages of live feeders i think i'm pretty covered.
varied diet. less chance of nutritional imbalance.( frozen blood worms, fry, hopefully the odd ghost shrimp when he gets bigger)
no nasties (parasites/ bacteria) because i breed the feeders.
no overfeeding yet. (because the fry numbers have not decreased much)

i am now in the market for a small cannister or HOB filter.
i will keep posting pics for now.
oh sorry, i forgot
small tank is 50 liter ~20 gallon
and there is a mirror behind 50g. so it looks extremely full.
