have they mated?

hiya,

After buying my fist trio of guppies, i have bought more increasing my tank population to 14 guppies.

The problem is that the male guppies seem to want to mate but when the male get to close the females swim away!

How do you know when guppiesd are mating?

Is it a long process or is it over in a few seconds?

Does the ph of the water affect them wanting to mate?

Any help would be useful

u can actually see them mate, its usually a short process, the male will swim beside the female and then he will use his gonopodium and give her a poke or to and thats bout it. they will do this many many times tho.

My females did that swam away, they are playing hard to get , won't be long if you have males in there.
