Have I Made A Mistake :o

Hiya,

Recently setup my newest tank 4ft

I was looking for some new additions to my tank,

3x Dwarf gouramis
5x tetras (unsure on species) Size of Neons or a little bigger
1x Bristle nose Catfish

and more corydoras than you can shake a stick at


But for my concern I m worried about a purchase I have made I got myself 7x Tiger barbs whom currently are still little babies, but I'm concerned about their future in my tank
as I have read and was aware they can be nippy, but have never had anything from them in the way of trouble. apart from chasing eachother all my other fish are left in peace.

I wanted some shrimp.. No can do, futher reading has now given me concern for my tetras and future limitation I now have because of these.. I wanted alot more tetras but can't due to fear of these things

but cant think of a single replacement who has such energy and characteristic which bring such life to my tank

any help out there


p.s should I get rid of them?

I had 5 tiger barbs with dwarf gourami b4. My gourami didn't like them very much but I don't think it was too stressful for him, he still chases them once in awhile and the Tiger barbs do the same sometimes.

My Tiger barbs are with a Gold and Blue spotted Gourami now, they did chase the gouramis a bit when I first introduced the gouramis but now that the gouramis have settled I see them attack all 5 of them when they try to get close.

I've seen some people have successfully kept them w/ Neons, mines with Black Skirt Tetras and there's no issues at all. I have one Adult Tiger Barb and 4 almost full grown.

tiger barbs are notorious fin nippers. when kept in larger groups they will concentrate on each other to argue about hierachy, if kept in numbers that are low they will turn their attention to others especially fish will long flowing colourfull fins like angels, discus, betta, gouramis, guppys etc etc etc. tiger barbs are probably best kept in a barb only tank or semi aggressive tank where the fish give and take any aggression
7 is possibly the minimum to keep to keep their concentration on each other any less and it sounds like trouble to me......
