Let me start out with some background. I used to have a ton of bettas but due to space and time constraints I now only have 3, 2 females and one male. My one little girl is just tiny, I don't know if she was stunted somehow or if she just never grew. Her name is Blue as she is this really neat pale blue colour. I have had her for at least a year and she is only about 1 1/2" long. Blue lives the good life in my 30 G tank with a few small tank mates. My other girl, Princess, has always been large. She is at least 2 1/2" long and is being temporarily housed in a 2 1/2G tank, I am waiting for one of my 10G's to cycle before I move her in there permanently. My male, Prince, is my daughters. He is a pretty little purple vt who has lived with us for about a year and a half. He has a 5g planted tank to lounge the days away.

On to my story. I recently moved Princess' tank beside Prince's tank in my bedroom. I wanted to see how they would react to seeing eachother as neither of them have seen another betta in quite some time. It was love at first sight. Princess has been showing off for Prince non-stop  . I was looking at Prince's bubble nest and decided to look and see if Princess was building her own bubblenest as she has built them in the past. I looked up and I couldn't believe my eyes! Not only had she built a bubblenest, but she had eggs in it! Not only that she is guarding them as well :hyper: . I have no idea how she did it as Prince is in a completely different tank. I guess she released the eggs and retrieved them off of the bottom and put them in the nest. She must have at least 50 in there and she still looks full of eggs.

they would not be fertilized as the male never touched them but this could be a good female to brood the eggs instead of the male check this web out http://www.bettysplendens.com/articles/pag...p?articleid=889

and not being mean but this is unfair to the other bettas in the competition

No the eggs aren't fertilized, nor will they ever be. Both of these bettas are VT and if I was going to attempt to breed bettas I wouldn't use these ones.

Thanks for the article Will. It was very informative. My female is at least 1 1/2 years old, probably closer to 2. She is also so agressive that she has to be in a tank by herself. She single handedly killed 2 other female bettas when she was living in my 55G tank. She did in fact eat the eggs the same night I took the pictures. She still has a bubblenest, but it is much smaller than before, and it is only one layer of bubbles.

That's too crazy, Sabrina! I've only seen this happen once, and even then I doubted it so much that I stuck my finger in her nest and stirred it up to be sure :look:

And also, waay off topic, but I'd hate to see the most beautiful betta thing put to an end. I'm *trying* to cover my eyes and let you guys have fun.
