hi all after some research and speaking to a friend about my male getting beat up so bad by one of my ''females'' (or his great escape) and then describing the female to him he said i bet its a male so i showed him a photo .....

he said thats a male the pectoral fins are straight and white tips wich only male have...
mabe a better photo you can see the fins go half way down the boddy( they are long)

the fins are all shorter and less pointy.... could i be the victim of infamous wrong sexing at the LPS??

well here is a turn up for the books so to say ..... i took out my male(from his breeder the halfmoon i got from vicki) and put him in his very own little tank and suddenly the females stripes are gone/going and one of my little girls i got from vicki suddenly starts to show vertical stripes as does one of the ohter females i have and the one i think is a male seems to be getting a lot of attention from them .......

To top it off I think there is more than 1 male in the 4 I got :( there is another one showing same characteristics now :(

as said it could just be sorting out there dominance, if you look in the link in my sig it shows you ways to spot a male

well im not 100% sure if it is or not
i have read your(lilfishie) thread on it and i see that the anal fin is indead longer (longer than the tail) and the pectoral fins are very long also only thing i cant see is a beard

The fish does have awfully long ventrals for a female and a large sharply pointed anal fin, I think it may be a male, there are a couple of tests you can do to try and determine this, firstly separate the fish into it's own tank if you have one, or separate container within the tank it is in, make sure there is no current, give it an almond leaf, bubble wrap or half a poly cup for it to build a nest under leave it for a few days or longer, if it builds one you more than likely have a male although some females do build nests too theirs are usually sparse compared to a males and they don't keep it up! you may also shield it from the other females in the tank and then test it's reaction after a while i.e flaring and showing off blowing bubbles etc a female is unlikely to go so crazy though she may flare a bit, plakats are difficult! and males are often mistaken for females, most females also carry the white ovi spot on their bellies, does this fish possess one? either way if it is being overly aggresive to the other girls I would seperate it for a bit.
