A few weeks ago I found one single fry - a guppy and never saw any more and the mother fish died. :-(

Yesterday I was cleaning the gravel in the tank and two teeny weeny eyes peered up at me so I stopped cleaning gravel and investigated further with help of my 10 year old we spotted 2 more guppy fry (smaller so more recently born I presume) and also 2 platy fry - they are bright orange. Managed to catch them and have them in the 'nursery' tank but today I have spotted another two guppy fry in there sitting hiding behind bits of gravel. I didnt realise any platies were pregnant and my two guppies seem to still be very pregnant.

Is it normal? I thought they kinda gave birth to whole lot at one time rather than still being pregnant but a few are born.

They can give birth over the course of a week, but usually it's quicker then that. It sounds like they make have been born a little bit ago, but you just found them now. They are VERY good at hiding, so I'm not really surprised. :) They may be smaller because they haven't gotten a lot of food...or maybe they were born a while after the first few you found. It's hard to say.

But congrats on the babies! :D

Keep out the sharp eye! I have lost a lot of fry by not looking close enough to the gravel and the plants. Great to hear that you are finding a few. My tank has predators that hit the fry from all sides including into the depths of gravel. Good luck on further rescues :)

my molly also had fry this week, and I had to remove almost all of the plants just to be sure there were no more fry (I didn't wanted to loose any more :( ) cause my tetras seem to be bloody killing machines... not to mention the parents

It's great you found them  specially the guppies, they must be really small compared to my almost transparent mollies
