hi when i went to petsathome and i really wanted 3 clownloachs because i luv them and i had never had them before but anyway wen he put them in the bag and said he would take them to the checkout i payed for them and i done what everyone does and had a look at my new fish i noticed that one of them was turned over but clown loachs always play dead so the man at the till said "hes just playing dead they are common for that stunt" so i just thought nothing of it and when i got home and put the bag in my tank the 2 were swimming round earlier on were still swimming and i noticed the other cloach eyes were silvery so i rang up pets at home and they told me to bring the (dead) cloach back so i did and they gave me a full refund so really i had 2 fish for free :p and all my money back cool huh.

i dont like to complain but i do now lol. :D

when dealing with tropical fish one sick fish doesn't mean it's a 'bad' LFS. The stores I respect and appreciate tend to address such situations very responsibly. I think you have found a rather integuous LFS and should thank them with repeat business and good word of mouth. ;)

lol im there best customer i got there every week and buy nearlly everything i need.
but i need a magnetic glass cleaner
and dechlorinator.

If I had spotted this sick fish, I would'nt care, I would'nt have taken the fish home in the fist place. Perosonaly.

Pets at home are rubbish at fish, price's are way to high as well, only go if i reallyyyyyyyyyyyyy have to.

when i bought my 5 bala sharks one of them died after 2 days. I took him back to Petsmart and got a full refund. The only reason i actually buy fish from Petsmart is because they have a 14day guarantee on all their fish and my LFS has no guarantees and ive never had luck with their fish.

Not all corporate stores are bad. I bought my sevs at a Pet Smart. The 'help' in the fish department are generally retarded (no offense to anyone mentally challenged... but retarded is such a perfect description for them) but the manager is well informed and very persistent with maintenance. They don't have the freedom to negotiate prices or make special orders, so I prefer to do business with an independent store, but I wouldn't hesitate to bring home one of their fish.

yeah most fish stores have a week or more guarantee on their fish. if they dont i'd go some where else.

Hello all,
I went to a Pets Plus and felt sorry for a poor Betta and bought him on the spot. Did'nt even realize his color until I got him home and in clear water. After reading up on Bettas and general water condition, I went back to the store and actually asked to speak to the manager. Took him and explained the conditions these poor fish were in. He just looked at me kind of weird and said that it would be taken care of. I went back three days later and the poor bettas were in the same condition. Thats when I made a scene, especially when I saw then that they had Bettas in a vase. Didn't notice it before. I pitched a fit and a different manger came up to me and asked me to leave the store. I told him that I was coming back with a PETA represenative so they could see the condition the fish were kept in. Needless to say, the conditions haven't changed after a week. I sent my mom in the store, in case i was recognized. She actually came out with tears in her eyes, saying she took 9 little glass bowls up to the counter with dead bettas in them. I have written a letter to PETA and to the main office of PETS PLUS. No reply from the office, but peta wrote a letter in response and the are looking into it.

I went to Fintastics tonight to look for fish to stock my 75 gallon. I tried to buy 4 marbled angels but the guy at the store said they had been having trouble with a slime on them ever since they moved into their new store about a month ago and wouldn't sell them. They are a little higher than most LFS but apparently worth it. I had never bought fish there before so it wasn't like he knew me and was giving me some inside info.

I always look for signs of bad health before buying. I had a couple of Harliquins up and die a few days after being introduced, but they are fine too date!

Hope all is well

I refuse to go to the closest pet shop anymore.

I bought two gobies last time I was there. I had them in qt because I noticed a weird texture to their slime coat (30 minute drive and I was already halfway home when I really looked). They were dead by morning. The guy is testing my water sample and I told him I put them in a quarentine tank and he just looks at me and says he's not giving me a refund then...If I would have put them in with my other fish he would have though....

and then if my fish had caught whatever funk was on those gobies....well why would he care....

He almost sold me a marbled goby with sap before so I should have known better than to not look over the fish real well. The shop isn't brightly lit so you can't see everything until you walk out the door anyhow.

My friend went into that shop a last week and bought a fish with an ulcer...but since she was buying meds for fin rot at the time I suspect the antibiotics will heal it up okay. Even if it doesn't it's a zebra danio so she's out 1$..

Still it's the principle of the thing. I breed dogs if I know a puppy is sick I don't sell it.

The only one I ever had a problem with was out of a yard dog I just hadn't got around to getting fixed yet and one of her pups had epilepsy which doesn't show up until the pup is older. It was no big deal I gave her back the money she paid for the dog and she chose to keep her (it was 25$ to cover shots and I still feel bad about it even though I couldn't have known).

There should be fish lemon laws...just like there are for dogs. Money or not I don't see how someone could knowingly sell a sick animal whatever it is...
