Hi,

I want some hatchetfish (preferably marble ones) but i can't seem to find any. I live in nottingham and was wondering if anyone knows where i can get any from locally.

Kayes pet store had some in on yesturday, they had 8. Its in nottingham city centre, also pets at hme had some.

Be carefull with those little blighters they are great jumpers! I had 3 and one dissapearead after a water change/filter clean. 2 weeks later i was doing the filter again and there he was inside the filter!! He had been in sort of fishy prison in the dark for 2 weeks, he was fine although he had turned very pale. He is still alive and kicking today :)

Another time one of them lept right out of the tank and down the back i had to pick him up with chopsticks to rescue him from the tight space, he loast a few scales but he also is fine :)

nice to know there is some other people from Nottingham on here, Andrea where is pets at home?

could always try Bardills or Brookfields, both have a decent selection of fish.

Alababa. lol you had some experiences with them, great to know they survived though. I worry now with any fish jumping, I keep plastic cover over and still count before putting hood back on lol.

Hi nick, yeh its good to see other people from the area, never know you could live a street away lol. Pets at home are at castle marina retail park, nears sainsburys complex and DFS at back of town. I go there a lot for my stuff and advice, there very good at that branch. Only go in Kayes though if you know your stuff as they will flog you anything regardless of what they know lol. They do have good stock though.

Where is Bardills?? I cant get to Brrokfields.

Have you ever seen a clown plec at any of those places?? Ive been after one for ages and just cant find any around Nottingham.

If you are able to drive, go to Wharf Aquatics in Pinxton just off J28 of the M1, they have or can get most things in for you and you can marvel at all the fish you will never have room to keep.

Hiya
yeah definately good to see some notts people on here.
Andrea - Bardills is on the A52 heading out towards Junction 25 on the M1. Quite good selection though a bit of run for me to get to. I didn't realise there was a pets at home in nottm, I went to the one in mansfield the other day but they didn't have any unfortunately but i'm feeling a bit of a trip out there this weekend i think.
Arfie - i may cause a bit of trouble saying this, but i went to pinxton a few weeks ago and i must admit i much prefer the world of water who is my lfs. i wouldn't be bothered venturing up the m1 to visit there again but i suppose its all down to personal preferance in the end.

Yeh they have a good set of tanks and some real nice fish. They know there stuff also. Only place I can get to I trust.

Hello fellow nottingham(ish) folk, I second on kayes pet centre, sometimes has some decent fish in, staff know a bit but they will probably sell you almost anything.

Pets at home is ok, never bought fish from there as i used to see alot of dead fish there when i got my first tank and stuff, on the other hand there selection of plants is excellent and they also have good pricing on tanks and equipment.

I find bardills has a decent range of fish also and they also have an excellent range of filters and tanks and very competitive prices, thats where i get my hikari fish food and any odd bits of equipment i need.

Finally theres wharf aquatics! Amazing shop, its massive, the display tank is a wonder to behold and they have the best selection of oddball fish in the area as far as im away, they have a good healthy stock of traditional tropical fish also. Have to go up to junction 28 of the m1 though to get to it but its fairly easy to get to away that, well worth one visit at least just to see th fish.

Ok i said finally but i just remembered Maidenhead aquatics in East bridgford garden centre, also an excellent shop, very good quality fish including discus, also got some interesting fish in like headstanders and clown killies and stuff like lampeyes.

Ok i think im done! Hope that helped some one but it probably didnt lol

They are wierd fish. I dont know what shape do they look like, but they seem to be a good fish.

Lol hi, another nottingham one Yeayy.

I wish I could get to wharf aquatics  heard so much about it.

Ive never seen any dead fish in pets at home. Had fish from there and they have all done well.

I need to get a personal driver on my wish list, so I can go to wharfs

How much would you pay? Actually if your under 16 then its probably not worth the money, sadly i would probably get arrested lol maybe im exaggerating slightly :p

For anyone else considering Hatchets...

We have a small group of 5 marble hatchets, "The B Squadron" because they look like little aeroplanes zooming around the tank, but those suckers FLY! do watch the lid.

If I have to catch them for any reason, I try to take out as much water as I can so they are floating further down away from the lid-line, they sort of jump up and fly away, lol.

They are remarkable and I would recommend them to anyone, we love watching them, they move in a funny jumpy way even underwater, but they rarely come down from right on the surface so if you have a low tank, you'll never see them unless you sit on the floor in front of it. They are very cool though.

ive not tried warfs ill try that next.
ive been to pets at home twice now never seen any dead fish.
but the 4 fish i have brought from there lasted about a month lol
i never put 2 and 2 together until reading this thread.

uve aksi tried timmerands and a bunch of other garden centres out side of arnold and calvo

next on my list is wharf ill go there once my new tank system is setup which at this rate will be about july!! im lazy lol

almost finished the hood

just gotta wait for my external
then i go buy my clear acrylic pipe for the water bridge and im all set should be about 2 weeks tops
