Just seen this on aquastar's auctions. You can see it if you scroll down on this one which also happens to be for the most awesome pale blue betta. It's really interesting to watch.

Thank's that was quite a setup. I can't imagine that many mouths to feed. I have about a 150 right now and that's enough.

I'm fascinated by how large scale eastern breeders set up their farms.

However, always have a major worry. When I read about Thai breeding, they often mention how their bettas in jars only get a couple of water changes a week. Having kept bettas in small, unfiltered tanks, I've seen ammonia get to detectable levels in 24 hours or so. I'd be interested to do ammonia tests in their jars and breeding tanks.

Not to say the way they do it is bad - they clearly have beautiful, healthy bettas, but what does that say for our western fish and betta tolerance for ammonia levels?

I always wonder the same thing, Assaye. I know Attison's Betta Spa claims to bind to toxic ammonia making it safe, so I wonder if those breeders use a similar water conditioner. Also, their water is probably a lot softer than water in the United States, so that would help make the ammonia less toxic. I don't know that much about it though, these are just guesses.
