I noticed today that 1 of my guppys tails looks a bit ragged and on the part of the edge it looks brown. He also more subdued then the others and I've noticed 1 of my others chases the 3rd guppy round a lot. Does this sound like run rot or bullying please?

I originally had 2 guppys in with 6 harlequins, 1 neon and 2 oto catfish. I bought another 2 guppys yesteday from pets at home, 1 died overnight but that 1s fins looked ok and the guppy which is doing the chasing left that 1 well alone.

tank temp: 25oC

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior): his tail looks ragged and on 1 part it looked a little brown on the edges his colours are not as bright as the others and he tends to hang out at the back of the tank although he does sometimes come out and interact with the other guppies and is eating fine.

Volume and Frequency of water changes: 20% weekly

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: only chemical additive is liquid plant fertilizer and de chlorinator.

Tank inhabitants: 6 harlequin rasboras, 2 oto catfish, 1 neon tetra, 3 guppies and a zebra snail

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): 2 new guppies both male 1 died overnight though that didn't show any sign like this 1.

Exposure to chemicals: none

Start by filling this out. Also with guppies what is your male to female ratio? No females as i didn't want any little guppies was also not advised I should have a female? I have only noticed his tail since I added the new guppies and the other guppy that was added at the same time is chasing the new addition around the tank but I've noticed it does tend to stand up to it and that 1 isn't showing any wear or tear to his tail. The other original guppy has a split in his tail fin which is also recent. I have live plants in my tank. I do have a picture but don't know how to upload on my phone! I have purchased some stress coat and some stuff for fin rot which starts with a m and has a funny spelling :/ (sorry I'm a newbie to this fish business)

I havnt noticed the guppy chasing the guppy with the ragged tail either

Melafix? its okay im new too. Im sorry I should have explained... the way to avoid the need for males and females is to get one sex and only one sex so you are fine there!

Do you know of the 1 inch to 1 gallon ratio? Guppies can be 2-3 inches so for 3 guppies that's 3 gallons of tank you need just for them then you calculate the rest of your fish at their adult length.

Do you have a hospital tank that you could put the sick guppy in? Allows him to recover without being
bullied and allows you to use aquarium salt as you can NOT use that with your other tank mates.

Perhaps another member with more experience can help you some too.

Ps doing daily water changes will help the sick fish too

Hi
No Its called myxazin. I checked my stocking levels before buying so its not overstocked. I don't have a hospital tank hopefully its not fin rot as surely the others would show signs. I've read that guppys get stressed easily hopefully the stress coat and myxazin will help. I also read guppies don't like salt?

I'm not sure where you read that guppies don't like salt, but they pretty much love it... My fish seem to perk up in it... Of course that's in moderation.

Otos however, do not do well in salt

Been watching him for past half hour and he seems to have perked up he has been swimming with the other guppies instead of hanging out at the back of the tank by himself like he has been doing for the past few days. Hopefully he was just a bit stressed and not got fin rot as his tail doesnt look to have got any worse. Added some stress coat tonight too :)
