I was just wondering if anyone has done a brackish tank? Last freshwater tank i tried to plant died. Alot of ammonium and nitrates where released and killed all my fish. Oh yea I have scats and monos so java fern is not an option do to the poisonous effects it can have.

Where on earth did you hear that? I agree it has a bitter taste (no I haven't tired it) but poisonous? It's been used commonly in brackish tanks.

Here is a guide from the Brackish section.

The same principles in freshwater planted tanks are the same in brackish tanks. i.e. light, CO2 and nutrients. Less light= less demand for CO2 and nutrients therefore less maintenance. Flow is important in a planted tank as well, to ensure the nutrients and carbon are delivered to the plants thoroughly. Again, less light = less flow required.
