Hi Friends, Has anyone kept a planted aquarium without any fish, shrimps, snails, crabs etc? Just a planted aquarium. I understand some people keep it. Thanks & bye.

You can and there would be some big advantages like being able to have the CO2 level very very high and you wouldn't be risking killing the fish, same goes for PO4 and NO3.

Guess the main reason people don't is because most people get into planted tanks by first keeping fish. I certainly enjoy the fish as much as the plants. Fish can also complement a planted scape really nicely so they add to the scape as a whole.

I kept a 2.5g java fern tank with sand and bogwood. I had it for about 4 months but the bogwood tinted the water heavily, even after I boiled it and put carbon in the filter. I was going to put 5 or 6 red cherry shrimp in there, but the Chinatown LFS I go to didn't have them in stock for a while. I got impatient and got 3 panda cories instead. They are so cute!!!

I have an 8g that currently doesn't have any livestock, but that will change.

I like fish too much to not put them in. I don't see the point of keeping just plants.

I do and have many times over the years.
They do well with ferts etc.
