I am mainly wondering this becuase I never get hit up about my plants there but if I make a thread I get PM's like crazy. I guess it doesn't work well for me becuase most of the ppl looking to trade live in the UK, but I was wondering if it has worked out for some of you

And if anyone is interested i have tons of Water Wisteria (Hygrophila difformis) - more then I know what to do with all stems are at least 9" high and bushy and I have tons of Red-Stem Milfoil (Myriophyllum matogrossensis) all stems at least 13" high

I have. I postes in the Plant swap section of plants and planted tanks. I posted. When I got a reply we e-mailed each other to finalize arrangements and each shipped our plants out . (I think priority.)
Maybe if you specified U.S. only it would help?

How do you ship the plants. I shipped some before and I wrapped wet paper towel around the roots then wrapped the paper towel up in plastic then wrapped all that up in newspaper. Does that sound good, and do you make a note on the box that it contains plants?

I have several times, works very well :) although normally only to people I recognize, I tend to avoid people with 1 or 2 posts, harsh but I want people to join the community before getting freebies!

I have also, well, not really a swap, but someone was nice enough to send some excess of dwarf hairgrass and x-mas moss on to me with nothing in return.....I have since removed most of the X-mas moss and the hairgrass hasn't survived the last few months :-(

PM sent, BTW.

Most plants, unless you live in a very cold climate, ship well via priority mail. I have participated in quite a few successful swaps in the past. The plants from these swaps are thriving and reproducing.

I tend to ship my plants in the following manner. Soak a sturdy paper towel in tank water. Wrap the plant carefully in the paper towel. You can also use wet Newspaper too, but make sure you don't soak it by dunking it in the tank. Funny what people will do. :hyper: Load the wrapped plant into a ziploc bag of appropriate size. Put the bag in a priority mail box, or a sturdy box that you have handy. Make sure it is cushioned with either plastic peanuts or Newspaper, and then ship. I will often label the box with "Live Plants" and "Fragile" just so people won't toss the box around. It don't think it helps much, as I've received some pretty sad-looking boxes. But, that is why I stressed "cushioned".

I actually took a look at your swap, Iroc, but I don't grow H. difformis anymore, and my setups are primarily geared towards lower light plants, so that leaves the myriophylum out too. I also, at times, have more plants than I know what to do with. My cuttings are now outside in a small 10g plastic fountain and growing quite well.

llj :)

Thanks llj for the advice on how to ship. All I need now is someone who wants them and has something I want in return. i wish i had something a little harder to grow that i wanted to get rid of so I could trade the LFS that has all the great plants, they never want my wistera through since it is so easy to grow

Ohhhh to llj & Sam, do you use a tracking number when shipping?

well I need a network of USA planted tank posters to want to trade esp for the wisteria becuase I orginaly bought it becuase it was fast growing but I only want to keep a small amount for it's lime green color but the rest could go. As far as my other plants well the myriophylum is something that I started with as a accent plant but I am going to do a substate change this weekend and I think i am going to use it in denser clumps as accents so that should end up actually being ok............but I would still trade it :D
