--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been looking for some new lights for my 55 gallon tank, and came across a few options, the cheapest being this Odyssea or Jebo 48" PC one. The 130 W fixture is $45 with 2 lights (although not the lights I would need)
and the 260 W fixture is $89 with 4 lights (again, not the right lights).

The 130 W fixtures specs says this:
sleek low profile aluminum housing
built-in reflector
external ballast
straight pin bulb configuration
acrylic lens cover

Is external ballast a bad thing? Wouldn't it get wet from condensation and cause problems?

The 260W fixture says this:
non corrosive powder coated housing
stainless steel reflector
internal electronic ballast
built-in cooling fans for continuous ventilation
three on/off switches controlling compact light and bluemoon separately
New! 3 Separated Power Cords Version
acrylic lens cover

This one seems much safer.

Anyways, anyone heard of these and have any experience? Thanks

i own a 130w pc lighting fixture from them which i havnt had had any trouble with but i would not really recomend buying any of there MH equitment because i have heard some horror storys about them like bulbs blowing up

I use the 260 watt light on my marine tank. It has worked very well, but the fans take 1-2 mins to get fully going, and I accidently broke the acrylic shield. :X I used silicon to glue it back together.

I've got a 120w jebo light on my freshwater planted tank. Bought it used, otherwise I wouldn't have specifically bought Jebo, but it was a really good deal, and I've been very happy with it.

Whats the light quality like? Whats the difference between an internal and an external ballast? Are they safe?

I see so many of these sold on ebay everyday, but it doesn't seem like many people have experience with them

I've used the Jebo 220 watt for 3 years on my saltwater ,till I stepped on it, and never had a problem with them. I'm acually getting the JEBO 260 Watt 48" in the mail within the next few days. :) I also believe the one your talking about (260 watt) has an option for a moon lamp as well. They come with the four bulbs and what I like is with the 3 swichtes and plugs you have the option of using the diffrent light effcts. For example you can have 2 on in morning and then all four in afternoon and then go back to 2 lights at night then have the moonlight kick on. As far as I know this is what comes with the fixture I bought.

The bulbs can also be easely purchased as long as they are straight pinned. Personally I like them for what the price is, I belive they are a Japenese or Chinese company so Maybe that is why it's less expensive. (the Americas like to rip you off) :hyper: Depending what company you acually purchase the bulbs from is where your light quality will come from. I didn't like the ones that came with it so I'd order diffrent ones. Good luck =)
