I had taken care of Hermit crabs for a while, and in that time I was told not to feed a commercial diet. The reason I was told is that their small bodies can't handle filtering out all the toxins contained in the preservatives. For instance, Copper sulfate is bad for them and can have adverse effects over long periods of ingestion. Ethyoxiquin is another bad one which I heard is capable of being eaten by bigger animals such as cats or dogs, but is hard on the liver of smaller animals. This has led me to be a little bit skeptic on how these commercial diets work for our fish. I mean sure, they contain most of the stuff they need, but surely these preservatives can't be harmless to fish and detrimental to hermit crabs, can they?
