This Saturday just gone the G/f and I decided to take a trip up to Viscum Water Gardens and have a look around. I'm sure alot of people who are into the hobby in South Yorkshire have heard of Viscum Water Gardens in Barnborough, it seems to be quite wll known. On the way we drive past a place called Harlington World of Pets, it's pretty near Viscum but I'd always dismissed it as a place that just sold rodents and pet food etc, how wrong I was.

The reason I like viscum is that it's not a nice selection of marine and some discus in stock, however it's a bit of a mess inside to be honest, but you can't have everything I suppose. Also I'm a big fan of Seahorses and they'd got some in a 95L display tank.... but with some tomato clownfish! these seahorses were wrapped around one of the filter pipes and were basically crapping themselves. Upon seeing them I commented on how they didn't look very happy and the guy replied "Yeah, they should really be kept in a tank on their own". Yeah, no ****.

So after a look round which left me with mixed feelings about the place we decided to go home. The g/f said we should stop at Harlington to see if we could get some dog biscuits as he's run out so we did. We went in and were looking around, when we discovered an absolutely immaculate aquarium section with a really nice selection of tropical fish. I got talking to the owner about RO units and he showed me the filtration room for the tanks, and it was spotless. There was also a sign in this section stating they'd got Discus in the new aquarium, so we went and found it.....

The new aquarium was even more immaculate than the old one and stocked more coldwater, tropical and marine fish. they had a decent slection of marine stock, live rock, corals, clownfish, firefish, cardinalfish, banner angelfish amongst others I've forgot, but they also had a couple of Batfish, never seen them before and they were beautuiful! But the Discus selection completely eclipsed everything else they had! Before this the most discus I've seen in one shop was about 12 small ones, here must have got about 150 discus of various sizes and colouring, they were beautiful! Discus are by far my fav fishes and I was absoultely amazed by the quantity and quality they had. They were a fair price aswell, they were all between £20-£40 with the execption of a breeding pair, which cost £120. While we were there one of the staff was feeding them and they certainly were happy eating and not timid at all! :) Another thing I've mentioned earlier was how clean the place was, I assumed the aquariums were maybe a few months old, but the 'new' aquarium was 6 years old!

I made a comment to one of the staff they should advertise more as not alot of people konw about this place. He agreed and is trying to talk the owner into advertising in PFK as a discus specialist, which they are. They certainly deserve more publicity for the quality of Discus on sale so I thought I'd make this thread about them.

I am aware of the age of this post, but wondered, is Harlington World of Pets still open? Its a reasonable distance to me and I ought to go and have a look!
