hi guys, well this morning i woke up to find one of my harlequin's dead, 2 others have got the lower part of their tails missing and another black rasbora has got his mouth constantly open and his tail isnt looking as healthy all of a sudden???I have tested the water which is:

ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 10
ph 7.4

my tank is 2 foot, well planted with LOADS of hiding spots, in there now is 2 black rasbora and 3 harlequin rasbora, i have noticed that the one healthy harlequin is constantly nipping at the one remaining healthy black one??? i thought they were peaceful??

oh plz help

Harlequins are normally peaceful fish.
I've lost harleqins to open mouths and never knew what it was.
Seen many harlequins on forums die of open mouths, but not black rasbora's.
An open mouth can mean something lodged in the mouth, sore or ulcer in the mouth.
Is the mouth swollen.
Any cotton strands, cotton wool, on the mouth or bleaching of the mouth.

You need to build the harlequin group up to six.
I would maybe think of rehoming the black rasbora's if the harlequins are nipping there fins.
Can you issolate the black rasbora's, even if you petition the tank in two halfs.

hi wilder,
thanks for your reply, the mouth of the dead black rasbora wasnt swollen or anything? Im not sure whats going on because this morning i woke up to find the aggressive harlequin dead too

All i have left now is 1 black rasbora and she looks like she is going wierd, constantly darting round or bashing up the side of the tank??? She has eaten today (quite fearce) is she looking for the rest of em? I'm not sure wether to go and make her group up to six?

Bless Them. R.I.P.

Darting can mean toxins in the water, ph shock, over dose of med, parasites, stray voltage. Or the fish is dying.
