I was wondering if anyone coul suggest any really hardy fish, its a very long story but Im setting up a tank for someone and I will be maintaining it for them.

I will be doing all the water changing etc but they live about an hours drive away and will go once or maybe twice a week to do whatever needs done but in any emergency will go straight round.....obviously I dont want to be in and out like a yo-yo so was wondering if anyone can suggest really hardy fish that will hopefully cut down on visits.

It will be a tropical tank, 200ltr or so (not set in stone yet) but it will be a community tank so things like danios and the like but I was hoping you guys might be able to suggest some others.

Any help is greatly apreciated and I thankyou all in advance.

Guppies are a bad idea. You might have got lucky, but guppies are so stupidly inbred for the colours it can be hard to get them to live over a few weeks. I'd go with danios, fun to watch, its very hard to overfeed them (they eat massive amounts if you let them), hardy.... Pretty too.

unless you plan on spending a lot of money to eventually find the hardy guppies, after going through like 12 i wouldn't suggest guppies.

Not sure if someone already wrote this but you can get long finned black tetras they get really big or you could get regular black tetras. And a common pleco.

If you are looking for a peaceful barb I would get 6 gold barbs and a trio of cherry barbs, and maybe a small pleco of some sort, although if you are trying to keep it low maitenance then a pleco might not be a good idea as they are a little messy.

Well mine sorta cleans up after himself because when ever I vacum clean the tank (which is about every two months) their isn't that much poop in it.

I agree that the pleco is hardy because mine survived when it jumped out of the tank and water out of water for about 10 mins. Then it survived a time when my water was cloudy then when it was green.

The live plants may mean extra work in keeping the tank looking nice, but they sure help cut down on water changes!! I set up a tank for my 86 year old grandmother, who lives about an hour away, and she can't take care of it herself. I only get to visit her about once a month or less, which means that's how often the tank gets a water change!! I put some hornwort in the tank when I set it up, and that has literally been a lifesaver for the fish. The plant is covering almost the entire surface and is growing like mad because of all the "fertilizer"
I feel sorry for the fish, but it's not like I can just tell my grandmother she isn't allowed to have pets anymore...
