Hard Algae On The Glass

Hi guys

IM getting a large amount of hard dark coloured algae on the glass im having to clean the glass every few days and the back of the tank is absolutley (sp) incrusted at the back.

The tank is at times in direct sunlight but there is no where i can move it to.

I was thinking about gettign a uv steriliser for the tank will this work to cure the problem?

adjust your photoperiod around the times when sun is on the tank so the tank lights are off if the tank is in sunlight. adjust it so it gets light 8 hrs a day total.

also do you have real plants, and are you dosing anything Co2 or fertilisers?

I do have a few plants but niot many and am dosing with

Nutrafin, Plant Gro. Im giving the weekly allowance but im now thinking i might cut back on this as it might not be helping, but im also thinking that i had this prob before i even started with dosing this stuff

i think the problem is not enough plants. there's obviously enough fertilisation and light in your tank for good plant growth, however not enough plants to soak up the nutrients so the algae is using them instead. try chucking in a whole heap more plants and seeing if it dies down.

I have flourecent lighting in my 96 liter tank and my plants doesn't seem to grow! Is it because of the lighting? I put the light off during the night

there's a whole host of factors affecting plant growth, lighting is just one of them. maybe you should start a topic in the plants section, give them full details of your set up, tank size, equipment, what plants you have etc and they can set you on the right path
