Well the 21 Molly Fry were growing too large so I netted the Molly Fry & brought 17 of them to PetCo, who said they'd take them. One of them died during netting because it got stuck between the net & the glass, poor little fish.

We kept (3) of them though & I hope at least one is a female so she can go back into my son's tank where she was born to live with her mother. Right now those three are all in the new 20 gallon with King Powder the Dwarf Gourami, (4) Guppies, (5) Glowlights, (3) Threelined Corys & a Mystery Snail.

Currently there's another, younger load of Molly Fry in my son's tank and the mother looks like she's going to have another load soon. Should I leave them to fend for themselves or should I put them in the fry net in my new 20 gallon?

Its up to you really, do you want to keep them?
I would just let natures take its course, whoever survives is a fighter!
If you save every single batch then soon you'll be overwhelmed with fry.

Good point. I'm proud of my first batch of fry though, I've never done this before & I did manage to keep most of them alive. I've only lost 3 of that first batch. I can't wait to see what they look like as they mature. The second batch looks more orange in color & some are darker, with what appears to be stripes.

Do Kuhlis, Glass Cats or Neons eat fry? I haven't seen any of them do it yet................although the Mother chases them away at feeding time

I think any fish will eat fry if its small enough to go in their mouth.
However i'm not quite sure on Kuhli's though.

I agree with the others about letting nature take its course. It's one of the reasons I don't like livebearers, because they reproduce faster than rabbits. It is highly likely that the LFS will not take an unlimited amount of these, so what will you do with them then? As much as I hate to do it, I'd just let them fend for themselves, and the best hiders will survive.

That's the same reason I don't like livebearers myself. These Mollys are my 10 year old son's and we enjoyed raising the first batch. I'm not too worried about the LFS taking them since I have a lot of fish stores in my area. If PetCo doesn't take the next batch I can bring them to The Fish Room, Aquarium Outfitters or Triangle Tropical Fish. I really wish I could talk my son out of keeping the mother, she looks ready to burst again.

Just leave themin the tank. In my tank its moderately planted with plenty of hiding places and 1 or 2 survive every drop.

I'm actually getting ready to move some of my fry to my main tank. I've got 5 places to send them. My tanks, petco, my friends 10 gallon with like 2 or 3 other platys, marine fish and reef an LFS, and to my friends 125 gallon sw for feeder fish which is what I'm least likely gonna do.

Believe me, I'm not letting the Molly mom have any more mature males in her tank! I thought I'd be done with a single batch & now it looks like it's going to be 3 at least.............

Does anyone know if the numbers of fry in the batches get smaller after the initial fertilization? As of right now the 2nd fry batch is fending for itself in the Mom's tank with the Glass Cats, 14 Neons, 4 Otos & a Kuhli. I don't think I could catch them all if I wanted to since they're all down around the plants & driftwood.

I have to update my signature tanks now..........
