Happy 4th of July to our US residents

We are kayaking today.

@Fishmanic that is one of the most "interesting" SSB renditions I have ever heard.

The Badger clan is hanging out with some friends and taking it easy after a couple of long road days. I am sitting on their back porch drinking tea, watching squirrels and listening to birds. Awfully nice. Whatever the day brings beyond that is bonus. But it will probably involve splashing about in a pool, a visit to Bass Pro Shop to look at their fish tanks, and perhaps a bit of KaBOOM here and there.

Watching the Macy's fireworks on the East River and then off to the venerable Katz's Deli (est. 1888) on the Lower East Side for a world class pastrami sandwich. Because what's the 4th of July without pastrami?
I’m jealous. New York City alone has the very best pastrami and corn beef sandwiches. We have a deli called the Essen Room that comes close but no cigar as we say. I grew up in the Catskills and worked my way through college driving a meat truck. I would go down to the 14th street meat market by 5 AM and fill the truck with all sorts of fresh beef, lamb and poultry. There was always a stop to pick up barrels of uncooked corn beef and pastrami. The pastrami was smoked right in the market. A can still remember the aroma of the smokehouse. When the truck was filled, usually by 9 AM, I would stop at one of the galley restaurants in the market. Saw dust on the floor. Yes I would order a pastrami sandwich for breakfast. Delicious!

Happy Independence Day my fellow Americans. Does it get any better than brother Ray Charles?

I had the pleasure of seeing Ray under the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, MO on the 4th of July 1992-93 ish. A concert I'll never forget.

Joey Chestnut won this year's hot dog eating contest at Coney Island by downing 70.5 Nthan's hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes. I feel like I'm eating unhealthy if I eat two hot dogs.
In 2021's contest he downed a record 76 hot dogs in 10 minutes. 🤪

Happy July 5 to all. If you are in the US, I'd suggest you avoid that Joey Chestnut character today. You might even want to extend that to the whole year.

Joey Chestnut at age 41 is worth an estimated 4 million dollars mostly from endorsements and competitive eating competitions. He earns about $500,000 per year. One of the benefits of doing competitive eating is you get an all you can eat meal for free and you get a nice paycheck if you win.

He might not live to spend that money given his diet.
