Wow alot of hamsters, alot of cages. I like the names. I don`t keep any at moment but have had lots of syrians over the years. Bred them a couple of times too. They are my fav small pet, such cute friendly little creatures
Angel.

I used to keep syrian hamsters in the past, very loveable little rodents, but don't live a very long time (usually around 2years+) so can be a lot of heart break :| . I've had a total of 4 during the time i used to keep them over the years, we also bred them once and ended up with 16 pups in the first litter (of which there was just 2 males- very unusual thing to happen, apparently most of the time most people can only expect around 8 baby hamster in the females first litter with a relatively even number of males and females) :hyper: !

I dont have any and unless any desperate rescues need a home i wont be getting any in the forseable future

I have only ever owned 3 in my life and all 3 where like something out of a horror movie and would attack me at every chance they got one causing me to have stitches in my finger

I had one hamster, for 2 years constant biting e.t.c. gave him to someone who was much better with hamsters and she managed to tame him (just!) but he sadly died at 3. He had a spacious cage and was looked after though

Dusk(RIP) used to be the hamster from hell....o. Cute lil dwarf hamster. But I found out that because she had only a 10 gallon (which is waaaay to small for a hamster) he became territorial. When I turned 13 I got a 20 gallon long tank and moved him in. After an hour he had relaxed and let me pick him up even though I had spent months just trying to feed him with him attacking me  C:

Never give up I say while taming even if my hands are sore from bites or I have spent 2 months and the hamster still is scared >,<

I <3 Hams

From all the horror stories and the general consensus that hamsters are evil little mean creatures that suck your soul with thier adorable eyes just so they can get the taste of blood dripping from your finger, I will stick with my pet rats, thank you! :good:

That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

I like hamsters better then rats anyday! :p I love rats I wanted some but decided against them. Hamsters are waaaaay better and easier to maintain.

I wouldn't say thats nesarsarily true- i keep rats now and i would say they are the same maintenence wise. Hamsters are cuter, but i find rats more sociable and less destructive (both are very intelligent little rodents, but they are both great in their little own ways) :) .

I was mostly teasing. :p

I do find the rats much more enjoyable, but its certainly a personal preference. ;)

bigger cages means more shavings vet bills are more expensive and rats seem to need to go to a vet more often then hamster. They need more time outside of the cage...they are more difficult and there care is extreamly different ;) Rats are more like puppies. I have always thought of rats more like puppies.

I know you were just joking but I hear it so often that it just seems stupid :p

Personal preference I agree ;)

Eh what i meant about the maintenence thing is that they need the same sort of care- for example the cage and things inside it both need cleaning at least once a week, whether it is rats or hamsters you keep, they also need to be taken out on a daily basic etc ;) . I agree though that rats are more time consuming though with their care and maintence, although i wouldn't nesarsarily say that rats need to be taken to vet more often than hamsters.
As you say though, its just a personal preference thing whether you like rats or hamtser :) .

They are spoilt rotten... :hyper: :shout:

I used to breed hamsters and I had one in particular that we named "Mrs. Bates" she was surely either straight from Psycho or hell ....She would jump at the side of her cage trying to get at you through it. I used to put carrot and veg through her cage and she would run over and snatch it off you and curl up in a ball and try to kill it. I am 6'1 and about 220 lbs of a man and that thing used to frighten the life out of me. BUT ain't they cute?
