Hi, I was thinking of putting a halogen light on a future planted tank (29 gal). Basically wondered if a halogen is ok for plants as I have read that the colour is close to the suns. Also does halogen make the same ripple effect as metal halide would in a tank?

Thanks

Halogen will work for some plant species but not all. I would only recommend them for nano tanks where florescent tubes are not possible due to the size and length.

You do get i kind of ripple effect with them but i wouldn't say it was like a metal halide. The color temp is usually low @ around 4000K but I'm not sure about the wave lengths that are produced.

Its been said that the light emitted by a halogen bulb is close to the type of light emitted by the moon.

I think alot of their energy is lost as heat.. and I don't think they are any better for plants then fluroecent. but that is hear say
