i hope this isint a dumb question but.....i was at wal-mart looking in the cheap section lol and found this light kit for trucks. Its the ones u put under the main light for off road use. Its small and the bulbs are halogen. I was wondering if i could use these for my tank? ive seen people who use halogen bulbs and was wondering if they are all the same??

Nope - wrong colour temp . This question comes up a lot - see this thread...

Halogen

Ski covers it all in post #5.

Quick search on here and there's a bunch more too!

Last I heard there was no such thing as a halogen bulb with a proper color temp for marine aquaria. It is unfortunately a product of the technology. While halogens may physically appear to be very similar to double ended metal halides (long thin double ended tubes), they in fact are completely different technologies electrically and specrally. If you can find a halogen bulb that outputs ideal marine spectrum light, please let the hobby know because to date none has been found to exist :)
