Well here are a few pics of my new halfbeaks (3 weeks in my tank). I have 2 males and two females about an inch long that are "pairing up" from what it looks like. If you can help with the id also i'd appreciate since i'm getting tired up looking them up at the moment. Thanks in advance! (I love these little guys, preety easy to care for and eat a lot):

I Hope you like this pics. Trying to focus on them little guys with macro is almost impossible. They are constantly zooming around and the water tension moves them around in certain areas. I had them with a pair of freshwater pipefish (small pugnose like don't know species yet), but they both died of a really bad fungal/bacterial infection.

I second Mad Duff. I've got one and it looks exactly like yours. :) Your tank is cool! How big is it?

My tank is only a ten gallon. I was worried about aggression (I thought they may be wrestling halfbeaks at first then I kept getting confused), but they leave eachother alone for the most part. When they "pair up", two will be left and the rest will swim into the java moss or just zoom to the other side. They are so small, I don't see a big need in upgrading the tank ATM. I'd love to see what they are like at full size, seeing as they've already doubled in size I don't think i'll have to wait long. I "think" I have two males and two females, ones pretty small so idk yet.

I think I may add someother fish when I get more plants, etc. I seem to have a fungal disease in the tank from the pipefish still though. I added a pair of guppies to breed for the halfbeaks and my seahorse, and a week later they were both dead (idk how it's possible to kill a guppy that easily...). I also put in a basically newborn clown loach I rescued from an lfs, and it died from the same thing. For the most part, the halfbeaks are unaffected- one had it on the tip of it's beak but it dissapeared within two days.

I love the little guys though. When I go up to the tank they all zoom right up and stare at me just like my needlenose fish does (they look like a fry version of it :p). I'm more used to larger fish like bass, bichirs, stingrays, etc. but i'm taking a liking to the halfbeaks :p. I used to have a larger one (different species) but I ended up giving it away after a month.

Yeah, I'd be on the lookout. My LFS has dozens of them in a small tank and they are constantly fighting. Males bicker all the time. That's why I only have one in my 29 gallon. :)
