My gorgeous half moontail betta got his fins stuck in the intake filter and they are almost completely gone. Will he survive this and will his fins grow back? http://www.flickr.com/photos/67537901@N02/6345008796/

I'm going through a similar thing after my boy jumped a divider into another male's side (see topic "Disaster"). His fins look a LOT worse than yours so I'd say he should be fine. Just do some daily water changes to keep the tank spotless and keep an eye out for fungus or finrot. He may need some medication if the tail doesn't heal on its own but it should do. It doesn't look too close to the body either which is always good. What filter are you using for him to get stuck to?

I was using a top fin power 10 filter in a 29 gallon tank. I got a dwarf gourami a few days ago but every time my betta went near he fled so I know he wasn't attacked.

he could have been attacked in the night? if you think its the filter try wrapping a sponge around the intake it will stop any sharp edging and also slow the filter down but it will increase the filtering effects and stop your betta getting dmg from it :D
