Hey all. I have 3 water lily bulbs in my tank (10 USG) and one that has been in the tank for 1-2 weeks has not done anything, but the other two that were added recently are HAIRY now!!!!! one of them releases bubbles some times, so I'm guessing maybe the bacteria are having a feast inside of it.
Does anyone know what is going on here??? :/

Could be bacteria. A picture would helpful. Sometimes, there is light, fuzzy root growth just before it sprouts, but without a picture, I can't tell for sure. Give them time too, sometimes can take a couple of weeks for them to sprout.

Now, I will confess, when I first saw this topic on the side bar out of the corner of my eye, my brain read something else and I thought "Oh darn, another topic to move to junk for inappropriate content." I bet you can guess what I first read. Hairy bulbs, llj, not hairy b****!

Thats good. I added some bulbs about 30 days ago and they got fuzzy before they started growing. Now the plants are as tall as the tank.

@lljdma06: I have uploaded a few pics to my flickr page; take a look. Hairy ....... That's the whole idea...I have to get your attention first

@shasm: I hope it goes as you said. I don't want to buy any more plants.

I have a total of 3 aponogetons: 2 germinated and doing fine; 3rd not doing anything + 1 onion bulb: has shed some layers but not germinating + 3 water lily bulbs: 2 hairy and 1 not hairy!!!!

The reason for having so many is that I want to get as many as possible to grow, so that I can add a couple to my brother's betta tank.

Anyway, thanks a lot.
Omid

As long as the bulb doesn't become soft and squishy you are good. They can stay in the tank as long as they are hard. May take them a while to sprout. I bought a pack of bulbs and so far only one water lily bulb has sprouted. One got soft and stinky and I had to throw it out. The other 4 are still hard and have roots but haven't done anything. Like I said, if they aren't soft and squishy then they are ok to leave.
