Hey everyone, been after some dwarf hairgrass for a carpet effect for my tank.

But, my LFS is selling hairgrass pots... Is there a difference between hairgrass and dwarf hair grass? Or is my LFS a bit lost :D

Also, would the carpet effect go to the inside of things like turned over flower pots or things like that?

Regards,
Indir

the clue is in the word dwarf.

Eleocharis Acicularis (dwarf hairgrass) is a foreground plant (as you probably know) need roughly 50-75w per 100 litres to grow, (you do the math) are grows up to 10-15cm.

Eleocharis vivipara (tall hairgrass) is more of a mid-background plant, same lighting conditions but gets 20-35cm.

there is also Eleocharis parvulus you might want to consider as that stays small (10-15cm) is foreground, same lighting conditions but its leaves are not quite as straight but there is not much in it. it is an undemanding plant, it is sometimes sold a Dwarf hairgrass but it is not. (very similar though)

I see, dangit. The one at my LFS is about 10cm or so. Ill have to ask them if it is actually dwarf or not. Thanks everyone :)

well if its cheap then get it, id it is the tall hairgrass you can just chop the top of and then put it behind wood or rock. it looks nice.

Its 8 AUD so i dunno how much that is where you are :p but seems the going price around my area. 20-35 cm is pretty high... but it may look great across the back or sides of the tank, have an air stone for the back lol, can get rid of it though

Ill go out and get it tomorrow and try to ID :D

Thank you everyone!! This forum is always helpful
