Hair Grass Stolon

One of my hairgrass started giving out a stolon over the substrate, and I got a chance to take some pics. :)

it is called a stolon, right ? I just thought I'd share it with you guys.

In the beginning:

And its still going on and on....
Now I know why its a "carpeting" plant :lol:

And if you must know, yes, those are crushed shells in my substrate, and I've already torn a lot of hair over it. [Edit: Pun intended: Hair-grass, pulling hair :p ]
 
Thats a wonderful sight. I know these as 'runners'.....dont know the biological term.

EDIT: its interesting to see them grow over the top of the substrate. mine go under the substrate and just pop up at some remote corner of the tank. I've got sand and clay, so that might explain the reason they go under....
 
Yes, they mostly grow underground, this one also has continued underground after 2 shoots
