Hello All,
I'm looking for a good foreground plant similar to hairgrass that will do ok in gravel. I know standard hair grass is not recommended in gravel.

I have about 2 wpg but it's a taller tank (28 Gal Top Fin Bowfront), so it's higher on the watts per sq. inch type calculation.
I also have a Nutrafin CO2 system.

Not planning any ferts besides fish food/waste.

Thanks!

However, the light has got a larger distance of water to pass through to get to the plants. Therefore, it won't be as intense.

Try Pygmy Chain Swords. :)

My hair grass Lived in Gravel (more to the point survived)
no runners ever sent out or nothing.
I have 2.2w per gallon and Just got my nice substrate will see how it goes. :)

I have dwarf harigrass growing very happily in 'enhanced' fine quartz gravel (enhanced with laterite, aquarium peat and activated carbon and rootballs every 12 months), sending out lots of runners and spreading very fast. It's a lovely little foreground plant it really is, it does need fertilisers however, as without these it just doesn't thrive. So you could just try poking some root balls into your gravel. One thing that is imporant with hairgrass, it grows better if you seperate it into small bunches rather than planting it in big groups. Once it has settled in it pretty quickly fills the gaps in between the bunches to form a nice carpet.
