Hi.

I Can NOT find dry yeast ANYWHERE here. Ive looked in at least 4 supermarkets and 25+ convienient stores. All they got is yeast in a block...like butter, and instant yeast.

i did once find dried yeast last year but they dont stock them now at the shop. At that time i didnt know if that was the proper yeast so i only bought one pack. What a shame they dont stock it now.

anyways I have tried both instant and block yeast in my DIY setup and they dont work.

So i had to buy the hagen RIP OFF activator and stabilser thing for 28 zlotych (polish dollars), whereas the one pack of dried yeast that i bought last year is 60 grosch (cents)!!

NOW. my question for all u DIY CO2 Experts, is how much water do i add to a 2L coke bottle for the hagen activator set? I dont own the reaction bottle by hagen so i dont know how much water "up to the first line" is in the hagen bottle.

do i add up to the rim of the coke bottle like usual? does too much water matter?

thanks and i hope i made sense

The stuff you call block yeast should work for a while, but it is not a strain well suited to fermentation, it doesn't have a high tollerance to alcohol, the waste products of its metabolism. It basically kills itself quite quickly, the alcohol percentage only needs to be 7-8% for it to die off.

What you need is the kind of yeast winemakers etc. use. This can take upto 17-18% before it finally gives up. Do you have any homebrewing/winemaking shops around you?

I don't have any experience with the Hagen stuff so can't comment.
