i had to put down my beautiful parrot fish. she got the ick and by the time i got home it was all over her. lucky my oscar is safe!!! =)

I'm not arguing your decision, but why did you have to euthanize?? Ich is one of the more common tropical fish parasites, and fairly easy to cure. :dunno:

Uh oh. There was really no need to do that. You could have quarantined it and treated the ich. There are like ten billion ich medications on the market (ok not really, but there are a lot) and you could have easily cured it in several weeks. If it happens again come for advice before making a rash decision like that.

Your oscar may seem fine now but ich is still gonna be in that water so I'd use a bit of preventative medication. If you don't want to do that, just keep an eye out and treat at the first sign of white spots.

well it was all over the fish so bad it couldnt swim. and i dont have a med tank...

I too am trying hard to comprehend the thinking of the original poster. Why did you let it get so bad?
If you care for your fish correctly and monitor them daily, this 'disease' can be seen and caught in the early stages and stopped quite quickly.
You stated that it was "all over the fish so bad it couldnt swim"? I've never ever, in my 25 years plus of keeping fish, seen a fish as bad with ich that it was in that kind of state.
I presume that because you don't have a 'med tank', that you decided to not treat at all? I personally use Waterlife products and they can be safely used with other fish in your main tank.
I'm always saddened when I lose a fish for no obvious reason - even a Cardinal! - so I guess that this just bugs me when I think you've watched it slowly die without taking obvious action.
There's lots of good people in this forum so in future please do not hesitate to ask for advice, no matter how trivial you believe it to be - there will always be someone who will be only too willing to assist you.

ummm dude... i did treat the tank... i put the poor fish out of its misery...

the morn i got up and got dressed and left the house the fish was fine. that night when i got home it was coverd. its not my fault. you make me seem like a bad person for letting this happen... i asap when out and bought meds for the tank. please dont critisize the way i hanndled the situation when there was nothing i could do.

a LFS lady told me the same thing happend to some of her fish. she went ot work and came home and her knife fish were coverd with the stuff.

ick is the couldy cotten type stuff right? i dont want to be naming the wrong sickness here.

Ich does not hinder a fish's ability to swim, and ich does not consist of cottony growths. Your fish obviously had some type of fungus. You need to correctly diagnose a disease before taking further action. Ich consists if tiny white spots on the fish's skin that look like grains of salt. It happens gradually, you are not going to see a fish suddenly overrun by it from one day to another.

well the stuff i got to treat it sure did work so eh...

anyway i dont remember what that stuff is called but i got hte right meds for my fishys

Dont bash him cuz his fish died.. no.gif

thanks mwm

Same thing happen to my angel fish a long time ago, it had these white like fuzzy growths, it couldnt swim, then it died, How did you put ur fish down?

Hey, sorry about your fish.

Don't Jump on here because sometimes with fish desieases there really is not anything you can do.
