Hi. I just bought my first platies last month. 1 male, 3 females. I just want to ask what are those things that appeared on my fish? (pointed by the red arrow). They were not there a couple of weeks ago... Is she sick?? By the way, she just gave birth yesterday to 26 baby fishes. If ever she's sick, will the babies be affected too? Thanks in advance for the help.

Looks like anchor worm to me, a long white strand with a forked tail.

Does it look like this.

Whats your location please, what country.

Uk interpet anti crustaceon med but it will wipe the bacterial colony out in your filter.
States clout.

Look like flukes, as wilder said, interpet anti crustaceon is good apart from what it does to the filter, I would google or look on ebay for flubenol 15 if you are in the uk, a few lfs sell it, but I certainly have none local to me

Yep! It definitely looks like that. So its anchor worm... :-(

As I have mentioned, my platy just gave birth. But I transfered the babies/fry as soon as I saw them. Will they be affected too?? Are they in any danger?

And just in case all my 4 adult platies die, how will I disinfect my aquarium???

Btw I'm from Manila, Philippines.

Have a look and see if you can get a med called 'azzo discus anti-endo parasite' its great and made in the far east, although we can't get it here

Achor worm meds are very strong maybe just add alittle bit of it to the fry tank.
