hi,
just lost my 9year old mbu to white spot, he has always been in good health and good with other fish. i added 2 cichlids which obviously carried the parasite and everthing was fine for the 2 weeks i was home but i had to spend 5 days away and when i come back the mbu had the worst infestation i have ever seen in 25 years of fish keeping. he stopped feeding on the night i came home.
the thing is i tried everything i could think of to irradicate the whitespot for over 2 weeks but nothing worked, the fish finally rolled over and his eyes sunk in on monday and he passed away, 17 days from when i started treatment.
this was a real top fish and even when i bought him 9 years ago some of the staff didnt want him sold dispite having about 50 others in there at the time. it really was a stunning fish with a personallity to match.
my wife, kids and me are in absolute bits over its death, i just wondered if i missed something when treating him. i raised the temp to 80f, added salt, vaccumed the gravel and the mbu, and did water changes every few days. i also used esha exit and i used esha2000 together because it was sush a heavy infestation, i was worried a secondry infection could occur.

could the parasite be a mutation and immune to treatment???? or did i just cock it up???(be gentle with me its been a real devestating week)

and does anyone know where any small mbu's are for sale in middeslex area??? i would like another one despite the fact nothing will come close to the one i lost..

thanks in advance for any responses..

Really sorry about your loss, it must be so awful after 9 years. I can't be any help with the whitespot but if your looking for a mbu you could try aquarist classified for a breeder in your area
