My sister has a tank with about 5 Guppys in there, 2x Blue 2x Yellow, And a baby! But in thel ast two weeks the blue guppies have seemed like theve been bullying the yellow 2, She lost the first yellow last week! The other day i was round there and the yellow guppy looked really ill and was looking in a bad way, it was hiding near the filter! So before we could get the hospital tank out and ready, we saw they other guppies (including they baby) Ripping the yellow guppy tail to shreads! :shout: It was totally ripped off , in shreads! It was like a sudden attack! So we now have him in the hospital tank but not sure whether to put him back in there when he's fully recovered? Why would the guppies do this? i didnt think they was like that at all? HELP!!

Well, first off are all of the guppies male or female? or is it a mixture of 2 and 2, because if it's a mix then the males (which I suspect to be the blue ones) are picking on the females inorder to breed more with them. What size is the tank anyways? You never mentioned. IME with guppies it's best to keep then in a tank of atleast 20gallons and moderatly planted, this way the breeding agression is lessend, also the ratio of males to females should be 1:3, 1 male for every 3 females.

Hope this helps

i have kept guppies in a 5g tank, so you dont need a 20g. I think that the yellow are males also, because females dont usually show much color. Put aquarium salt in the hospital tank, as it helps with fungus and stress.

There are quite a few highly coloured strains of female guppies on the market these days, I've had some that were just as bright as the males- better to look at the anal fin for sexing.
And many people would feel that 5 gallons is too small, at least for a mixed sex tank. Nowhere for the females to get away from the males and not enough exercise room.
