Hey everyone!

ive heard alot of posts saying that bettas and guppys are simply incompatible and are fin nippers however my betta i think hes a bit on the placid side has lived with 11 guppys! and not had his tail nipped or like wise has anyone else had the same experience?

It does happen. Some Bettas will live happily with what we class as 'fin nippers' and some won't.

I've kept a rescued Betta with some x-ray tetras before with no problems. On the other hand I had a fiesty crowntail Betta that wanted to eat them all, so was put into a seperate tank of his own.

The thing with mixing a Betta with something else is that you just never know the outcome. It's great if all goes well. But what if it doesnt? What if it is going well but one day your Betta decides he doesnt like it anymore? This is why we dont recommend it. In the event of something going pear shaped, you need that second tank ready to move your Betta (or his tank mates). Or have a tank devider there on hand to partition off an area. If there has been any damage to any of the fish, its ideal to have the correct meds on hand straight away.

So, it can be done, but people need to be very prepared for what ever the outcome. Hense it is not really recommended.

I agree with maddie one day they can be fine next they could be eating each other  it could go well for a while or it could be one big disaster!
Good Luck.
